How to Find Real Estate Experts You Can Actually Trust, And Where Not to Look
Someone asks me at least once a week where they can find real estate experts they can actually trust. My answer is always the same.
Not anywhere that's advertising experts.
Here's why. Most people or groups claiming to be experts who are willing to stop investing, stop making the best money to be made, stop doing the thing they spent years getting good at, to teach a class or become a mass mentor? They're not what they're selling. The real ones are too busy doing deals to stop and run a bootcamp.
Think about it honestly. If you had cracked the code on making serious money in real estate would you stop to teach weekend seminars for $2,000 a head? Or would you be out finding the next deal?
So where do you actually find people worth learning from?
Get in the field. Meet property owners. Talk to property managers. Call a few property management companies and ask them what their biggest problems are. You'll learn more in one honest conversation with a working property manager than in a week of seminars. Talk to contractors. Talk to inspectors. Talk to lenders who actually close investment deals. These people are in it every day and most of them will tell you exactly what they know if you ask the right questions and show genuine interest.
Take learning into your own hands. Stop following the crowd. The crowd will direct you to a book or a website you can buy. The real experts are too busy doing real deals to stop and peddle a program.
Some of those books and courses have genuine value, a few perspectives worth considering. But they are one person's experience, filtered through what sells, packaged for mass consumption. They are a starting point at best.
The standouts in this business are creative and they work hard. You will almost never hear a billionaire say they took small easy steps and utilized seminars on their way to the top. What you will hear is that they got in the field early, failed a lot, found people doing real things and got close to them, and refused to stop.
That's the formula. It's always been the formula.
