Where to start, if you dont' know where you are.
The reality of any new start, or beginning, is that its going to be rough. The motivation to be a success or wealthy won’t be enough to get you through. BUT, if you desire to make a difference in your life and in other peoples then you will. Your motivation is important, as in intent. Nobody who sets out to screw others over or “get theirs” is ever really able to enjoy their “success”. That being said, the key to REI (real estate investment) is motivation. You will need it.
Start with a goal- i.e. do you want to flip some deals to add to your retirement nest egg or do you want to be a landlord? HOW do you want to live when you reach your goal is vital to creating a pathway for yourself. It will change as you gain new info and new perspective. But having a goal and knowing exactly what it is and why, for now, is key.
Next, write out your goal and your best laid plans on how you plan on achieving this goal. Its VITAL you write down everything to this plan and VITAL you check it daily to ensure you are still on the right path (and not distracted or misled) of course if you stop, consider, and readjust your goals (in writing) then of course that isn’t the same as “ooops, I am off track”.
Finally, doing the research to understanding the how and why of your goals will help guide you on the path of where to start. So, education is key but its not just about classes or lab courses; its about “acting as if” you are going to go down certain paths but only enough to explore if its right for you. Check every aspect of REI out before assuming you should do what everyone does. After all, not everyone is a success.
